Celebrate Europe

An inspiring youth exchange program organized by the Italian SMART Association, held from September 6 to 14, 2021, in Poggiardo, Italy. Designed to foster intercultural dialogue and challenge stereotypes, the program featured collaborative activities and shared experiences that encouraged participants to learn from each other and grow together.

The participants were engaged in a wide range of workshops and group activities to explore the rich cultural diversity existing across Europe. The program provided a platform for young people to challenge preconceived notions about different nationalities, identities, and ways of life, encouraging them to dive into the role of stereotypes in shaping attitudes and behaviors.
Through interactive learning experiences, the participants developed greater empathy and appreciation for cultural differences while discovering the common values that unite people across borders. The program also encouraged the creation of new friendships and networks.

By the end of the program, “Celebrate Europe” had achieved its goal of creating a dynamic and open space for young individuals to connect, learn, and celebrate what makes each culture unique, while reinforcing the importance of unity and mutual respect across diverse cultures. The young participants demonstrated openness to dialogue and mutual understanding. Most importantly, they reported a significant shift in their perspectives on Europe and active citizenship, a change directly attributed to the engaging activities and discussions held throughout the project.

Who were the participants?

The program brought together 42 young people, aged 18 to 25, from seven countries: Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Romania, Turkey, and Italy.
